Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend a moderate level of fitness. The most important thing is to acclimatize to the altitude for at least 2 days in Cusco before starting any hike. Treks like Salkantay are challenging, but incredibly rewarding.

Our guides are trained in first aid and carry oxygen tanks. We recommend acclimatizing, drinking coca tea, and moving slowly. If symptoms persist, we will take the necessary steps to ensure your safety.

Trekking poles are not usually included in the standard price, but you can rent them from us. We strongly recommend using them, especially on long descents to protect your knees.

Amazing! Our chefs prepare fresh and varied gourmet meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks). We cater to all dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.) at no extra cost. Just let us know when booking.

It depends on the trek. On the Salkantay Trek, our exclusive camps (such as Sky Domes) have bathrooms and hot showers (at an additional cost at some camps). On the Classic Inca Trail, the bathrooms are basic campsite facilities.

The dry season (April to October) is the most popular, with sunny days and cold nights. The rainy season (November to March) is greener and less crowded, but be prepared for rain. (Note: The Inca Trail closes in February for maintenance.)

It is the tall mountain seen behind Machu Picchu in the classic photo. It requires a separate entry permit, which sells out very quickly. The climb is steep and narrow, but the views are spectacular. You must book it together with your Machu Picchu entrance ticket.

Train companies (PeruRail and Inca Rail) only allow one small piece of hand luggage (a backpack) not exceeding 8 kg (17 lb). Your main luggage must be stored securely at your hotel in Cusco or Ollantaytambo.

On most treks (Salkantay, Lares), our camps and domes have solar panels to charge devices overnight. However, on the Classic Inca Trail, there is no electricity at the campsites. We recommend bringing a portable external battery (power bank).

Tipping is voluntary and greatly appreciated if you are satisfied with the service. As a guideline, for a group trek it is customary to collect between $30–50 USD per hiker, distributed among guides, cooks, and muleteers/porters.
